CARLISLE & HOUGHTON HALL GARDEN CENTRE (09.00 – B)

Our first visit of the day will be Houghton Hall Garden Centre. Spread over 3 levels, there is much to explore including gardening, gifts, clothing, crafts, garden furniture, outdoor living and coffee shop / café.

Carlisle has been a significant place since well before Roman times and is currently the largest city in England by area with a population of over    100,000. The city’s castle has only recently stopped being occupied by the King’s own Border Regiment however, it is still used as a base for the cadets and ex-servicemen to this day. The cathedral (2^nd smallest in the country) is 900 years old and is still the centre of the ecclesiastical focus for the city.
