Staying at the Family Owned Merrion Hotel, Llandudno
After all these years – over 150 actually, Llandudno is still a big favourite with everyone. What’s not to like?
Llandudno’s immaculate seafront gracefully framed by two headlands is a seaside classic. It is a proper
resort, with pier, promenade, sea, Alice in wonderland – Llandudno’s got taste. The Merrion hotel is run by 2
brothers who continue to have it managed with the same ethos and values enshrined by their Grandparents
in the 40’s and 50’s, they also have Samantha in the business as second chef, this means four generations
of Breams at the Merrion and makes them one of the oldest family run businesses in the area. Whilst the
hotel business changes constantly, their focus on quality and value remains true to their past.

Our Itinerary
DAY 1 – Once your door to door service has brought you to the coach we travel directly to Llandudno and to
the extravaganza. The event has been established for 37 years. If you haven’t been yet you are missing out!
The Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza takes place on the first May bank holiday weekend each year. It takes
over the main streets of Llandudno for the full three days, bringing Vintage attractions, Entertainment and
Fun fair. This fantastic event is free to attend and has many free aspects. We later check into our hotel.
DAY 2 – Today we have a full day as we have a country run to Betws-y-coed for the morning, this magical
setting has a distinctly Alpine feel enhanced by the dense Gwydyr Forest surrounding Betws-y-Coed. We
later make our way to Penrhyn Castle for an included visit. Owned by the Pennant family, Penrhyn is a key
example of how wealth derived from slavery shaped the environment of Wales and underpinned local
working histories. A staunch anti-abolitionist, Richard Pennant’s fortune – acquired from sugar plantations in
Jamaica that used enslaved labour – funded roads, railways, schools, hotels, workers’ houses, churches and
farms in North Wales. The Penrhyn Slate Quarry and Port Penrhyn, established by the Pennants, dominated
the Welsh slate industry for almost 150 years. Penrhyn Castle’s vast rooms, rich neo-Norman architecture
and opulent furnishings are steeped in these colonial histories.
DAY 3 – A full day today as we explore the Isle of Anglesey. A place of unparalleled beauty and amazing
adventures, Anglesey is an historic island full of character. We call at
LLanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerchychryndrobwyllllantisiliogogogoch to start and make our way around the north of
the isle down to Beaumaris where we shall stop before returning to our hotel.
DAY 4 – A full day today. We travel to Porthmadog firstly and have time to explore before we make our way
to Beddgelert, home to a Lore & Legend tale before heading over the Llanberis pass back to our hotel.
DAY 5 – A free morning to relax and explore more of Llandudno before we meet for an included lunch in the
hotel. We depart after lunch and visit St Margaret’s church (Marble Church), Lady Margaret Willoughby de
Broke built the church in memory of her husband. The church took 4 years to build from1856-1860 and has
various marbles from around the world. After a suitable visit, travel direct to our home areas where your door
to door service will be waiting to take you back to your homes.
