Staying at the White Swan Hotel – Alnwick


Our springtime visit to Northumberland takes us to the old market town of Alnwick. It dates back almost 1500 years and was an important agricultural town. It is also famous for its castle originally dating back to 1096, which is known for the filming of Harry Potter. Alnwick Garden, where we include a visit was designed by the Duchess of Northumberland in 2001. Our hotel, The White Swan which we have been visiting for the past 30 years is in the centre of the town at Bondgate within. It is an old coaching inn dating back 300 years and has recently undergone a major refurbishment. It is well known for the Olympic Suite restaurant, with it’s panelling, mirrors and ornate ceiling, salvaged from RHS Olympic, the sister ship to the Titanic.
