Our Itinerary
Day 1 Once your door-to-door service has picked you up, we join our coach and travel to Suffolk with suitable breaks on the way. We aim to arrive at our hotel with plenty of time to settle in before dinner.
Day 2 Today we enjoy a tour along the picturesque Suffolk coast starting with a visit to Southwold famous for its colourfully painted beach huts and lovely pier before continuing to the village of Thorpness which boasts mock Tudor houses and the fairy-tale folly known as “the house in the clouds”. We enjoy free time here for lunch before continuing to Aldeburgh which exudes nostalgic seaside charm.
Day 3 This morning we have a guided tour of the world-famous Anglo-Saxon burial site of Sutton Hoo. The beautiful 255-acre estate is where one of Britain’s greatest archaeological finds was made in 1939. We discover the story of the amazing 7th century ship burial of an Anglo Saxon King, view the award-winning exhibition and explore the full-size reconstruction of the burial chamber. (Please note that accessing the burial mounds requires a 10 – 15 minute outdoor level walk, less mobile guests can visit the exhibition, cafe & shop). This afternoon brings free time to enjoy beautiful Ipswich Marina, which neighbours our hotel. Perhaps take a stroll to admire the yachts and dip into the shops and cafes fringing the waterfront.
Day 4 A free morning this morning before we travel southwards to visit the Beth Chatto Gardens. Created from wasteland in the 1960s by plantswoman Beth Chatto OBE, this collection of informal themed gardens illustrates the principle of ‘finding the right place for the right plant’ and include everything from a gravel garden of unirrigated plants to shady woodland garden and serene water garden – all a joy to wander around.
Day 5 Sadly we have to say goodbye. After a leisurely breakfast, we drive for home stopping off on the way for refreshments before arriving back home and to your door-to-door service which will take you back to your doorsteps.
