Founder Robert Thompson born 1876 taught himself to use the tools of medieval Craftsmen    to bring back craftsmanship in English Oak. The origin of the famous mouse symbol hand crafted on every item is uncertain. Thompson told that one of his craftsmen had commented they were all poor as church mice!

Ampleforth Abbey is a beautiful monastery of Benedictine Monks which claims decent from the pre-reformation community of Westminster Abbey through the last surviving monk from Westminster. Ampleforth Abbey Cider, Beer and Liqueurs may be purchased at the Abbey Shop.
