Staying at the 3* Empress Hotel, Douglas

The superbly situated 3* Empress Hotel on the seafront at Douglas is our base for this holiday. We tour the whole of the island including a full drive of the famous ‘TT’ course via Ramsay, Port Erin and St. John’s, the location of the ancient Tynwald or island’s Government.

Our crossings to the island are to and from Heysham.

Douglas is the capital and largest town of the Isle of Man. In 1869 the island’s government, the Tynwald, relocated to Douglas from Castletown. The annual ‘TT’ course starts and finishes here. The course itself is nearly 38 miles long including the mountain road, where the highest point is 1385ft above sea level.

Snaefell is the highest point on the island at 2034 ft and operates an electric mountain railway which is approximately five miles long.

Castletown until 1869 was the island’s capital before being transferred to Douglas. Castle Rushden, a popular visit is where several television shows have been filmed.
